WARWICKSHIRE’S Sophie Phillips delivered a winning performance in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers second round.

The final round of the season attracted pony riders from all over the country to the Welsh Home Pony held at Wales and West Show in Newport, Monmouthshire.

A total of 111 combinations came forward to compete for one of the two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final, leading to three action-packed rounds of showjumping.

After two challenging rounds, just 12 determined combinations remained to go head-to-head against the clock in the final jump-off.

Sixteen-year-old Phillips, riding Tracey Phillips’ eight-year-old bay gelding Valentino Supreme, stormed to first place with a lightning fast performance, rounding off their treble clear in just 41.90 seconds.

Claiming second place was Isabelle Ryder, aged 15, from Thatcham, Berkshire, riding Cuilin Dun, a six-year-old dun gelding owned by Simon Ryder.

They rode a treble clear of the class in 50.41 seconds.

The riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships
