STEPHEN Creed and Anne Parry won the respective men’s and ladies’ Club Championships at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club.

The men’s and ladies’ events took place on the same day over 36 holes for the first time with a new format introduced for the ladies competition.

In-form plus two handicapper Creed defied the challenging pins and tricky course conditions to successfully defend his Club Championship title.

Creed finished on three-under par with his two-under par second round allowing him to break away from the field after low first round scores from Gareth Jenkins (70), Joel Smith (71) and Ian Wilton (72).

He secured top spot with rounds of 71 and 70 with Smith second (71 and 77) and Wilton third (72 and 79).

And Parry claimed the ladies title to secure her 10th championship title spanning five decades since her first success in 1987.

Playing with defending champion Veronique Lintin and Charlotte Atkinson, the title could have gone to any of the three competitors coming down the last hole.

However, Parry holed a lob wedge to birdie the final hole and secure the title with rounds of 87 and 80. Atkinson (86 and 83) finished second with Lintin (89 and 83) third.

Men’s winner Creed has also qualified for the US Senior Amateur Golf Championship after securing 17th place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking table.

Creed won the English Senior Amateur Championship last year and has impressed on the European and UK seniors circuit this year.

The event takes place at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee from August 24 to 29.
