Town on the road for opener

STRATFORD Town will make their Southern League Premier Division debut with a trip to Hitchin Town.

Carl Adams’ promotion-winners will visit Top Field on Saturday, August 8 for their first ever match at non-league step three level before welcoming fellow newcomers Bedworth United to the DCS Stadium on Tuesday, August 11.

Town will visit Redditch United on August Bank Holiday Monday, August 31 and the return fixture is on Boxing Day.

Stratford visit old rivals Leamington in the first match of 2016 on January 2 and entertain the Brakes on March 28.

Adams’ men began their pre-season matches with a 2-1 defeat at Banbury United on Saturday.

Town’s players have been focusing on their fitness work in training and a sluggish start cost them two goals as Louis Joyce punished two errors inside the first ten minutes.

Adams made nine changes for the second half and Simeon Tulloch pulled a goal back after Emmitt Delfouneso – one of eight summers signings on show – set up the chance.

Straford have changed the venue for Saturday’s (3pm) friendly against Worcester City to the Cryfield pitches at the University of Warwick.

Town’s pitch is not quite ready to be played on following remedial drainage work.
