Thunderbirds teams reign supreme

STRATFORD Thunderbirds Junior Netball Club teams are flying high after clinching numerous titles.

The U12 A team are treble champions, whilst five of the club’s teams triumphed in the Birmingham Intermediate Netball League (BINL).

The U12 A outfit swooped to win their third championship this season on the final day of the BINL on Sunday.

With an emphatic 27-14 victory over Bromsgrove club Ryland, the girls scored yet another first for the Stratford club. In the spring, they netted both the Worcestershire and Coventry/Warwickshire titles and have now seen off the best the West Midlands has to offer in their age group.

The 2016/17 season has been a hectic one for the group of friends, often playing in two leagues on the same day. Nevertheless, the U12 A girls are a credit to Thunderbirds, with each girl ready and able to play for older teams when needed.

Thunderbirds had more to celebrate on Sunday when, having entered ten teams for the first time into the BINL, a further four were also crowned champions of their respective divisions.

Glory went the way of the U11 B, U13 A, U13 B and U15 B teams, whilst both the U11 A and U14 B sides were close runners-up and the U12 B team finished third.

Club spokeswoman Elaine Binks said: “After a busy summer of tournaments up and down the country, Thunderbirds look forward to a fruitful awards evening in September to celebrate the club’s second birthday.”
