Thunderbirds sides net deserved titles

Stratford Editorial 9th May, 2018   0

STRATFORD Thunderbirds Junior Netball Club are celebrating two resounding successes after both their U13A and U12A teams won their Coventry & Warwickshire leagues without losing a game.

Trophies were presented at the end of season tournament, staged at the Excel Leisure Centre in Coventry on Sunday.

Despite the bitter wind and a heavy handicap as a result of their league success, the U13A team also swooped in to win the end of season tournament shield and replicate all the success they enjoyed as the U12A side in 2017.

With the promise of great things for the future, the U11A team brought another end of season tournament shield back to Stratford, which was all the more impressive given the fact they were playing in the U12 competition.

With an eye on the bigger picture, Thunderbirds head coach Kelly McCormack said: “I am very proud of our U12A and U13A teams for winning their divisions in Coventry and being undefeated.

“I am equally proud of our B, C and D teams too, as all of them have played with true grit and determination.”

Stratford’s U12A team won their Coventry & Warwickshire league with nine wins from as many games, scoring 317 goals scored and conceding 79.

Stratford B came fourth, Stratford C seventh and Stratford D eighth.

The U13A Stratford side also had a 100 per cent record from nine matches, scoring 342 goals and conceding 70. Stratford B were fourth and Stratford C sixth.

In the U14 (McIntyre Division), Stratford A finished third with five wins and two losses to their name.

Thunderbirds have now turned their attentions to the Birmingham Intermediate League which is already under way and concludes in July.

Elsewhere, several teams with junior members aged U14 plus are also benefiting from the experience of playing in the Redditch senior leagues.
