STRATFORD Boat Club’s recreational rowers impressively completed the 25-mile Ore Stone challenge with a Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club crew.

The race goes from Exmouth to Torquay around the Ore Stone and Thatcher Rock and then back to Exmouth.

Ruth Winter, Stratford’s Recreational Squad organiser, said: “The sea was very choppy but we did ourselves proud, coming in third place close behind The Devonshire Fire Service boat and Exmouth men’s crew.”

Will MacLeod, a Stratford crew member, added: “We did the race in four hours and 41 minutes. We had aching muscles and were seriously hungry, but are happy with our efforts!

“It’s good training for our own Rybrook MINI Regatta on Saturday, June 20.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the club spent a busy weekend on the Avon as the upstream time trials and Learn to Row sessions got into full swing.
