RUGBY UNION - Claverdon slip to third consecutive defeat against Kenilworth

CLAVERDON suffered a third consecutive defeat after they were beaten 22-21 by Kenilworth II in a close affair.

Max Oxton-Morris, James Barton and James Williams crossed for Claverdon’s tries as the visitors surrendered a half time lead to slip to defeat.

The result means Claverdon sit sixth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table after five matches.

And Claverdon made a strong start when centre Oxton-Morris produced a powerful carry to score with Williams adding the conversion.

However, Kenilworth levelled the scores from a scrum close to the Claverdon line.

The visitors restored their lead when Barton picked up the ball at the back of the scrum and darter over with Williams’ conversion sending Claverdon into the break with a 14-7 lead.

Kenilworth responded again when another scrum on the Claverdon five-metre line was worked out wide as the hosts touched down in the corner after the visitors had a player sent to the sin bin.

However, Claverdon scored from the restart when Williams evaded the Kenilworth defenders to dot down underneath the posts before converting his own try.

Kenilworth crossed twice in quick succession to take a narrow lead and held on as Claverdon came away with a losing bonus point.

Claverdon are next in action at home to league leaders Alcester on Saturday, October 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Ossetts Hole Lane.
