RUGBY UNION - Claverdon claim bonus point win in first home game of season

CLAVERDON RFC eased to a dominant 27-5 bonus point win against Rugby St. Andrews in their first home game of the season.

Will Jackson, Sam Turrell, James Williams and Archie Hinchliffe all crossed for tries to maintain their perfect start to the campaign.

The result means Claverdon sit top of the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table, level on points with second-placed Alcester.

And the home side made a fast start when centre Jackson crossed for an early try as he finished off a well-worked Claverdon move.

Fellow centre Turrell added his name to the scoresheet soon after with James Williams kicking the conversion to put the home side into a 12-point lead after just 10 minutes.

And Williams then grabbed a try for himself with a signature breakaway, using his deceptive turn of pace, before converting his own score.

Rugby’s only try came just before half time as their heavy forward pack bullied their way up the pitch before the full-back danced his way through to score.

And Claverdon scored their bonus-point try late on when debutant Hinchliffe finished off a clever move after full-back Hilton Garner-Jones split the Rugby defence.

Claverdon are next in action away at Southam on Saturday, September 17 with kick-off at 3pm at The Rugby Field on Kineton Road.
