RUGBY UNION - Alcester stay perfect with narrow Bromyard win

ALCESTER RFC secured a fourth successive victory with a narrow 17-11 win away at Bromyard.

Kyran Flynn, Mark Burrell and Max Biltcliffe crossed for Alcester as Bromyard came away with a losing bonus point at the death.

The result means Alcester sit second in the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table, behind leaders Old Wheatleyans on points difference.

Bromyard took an early lead through a penalty after Alcester were penalised for a deliberate knock on.

Alcester responded when Flynn powered over the line to score the first try of the game on 15 minutes with the conversion just missing the posts.

And Burrell scored Alcester’s second try out wide after superb work from Oscar Holland, in his last game for the club, as he drew in the last defender before offloading to the former to touch down with the conversion successful.

However, Alcester switched off at the restart with allowed Bromyard to score their first try as the visitors held a slender 12-8 lead at the break.

And Alcester went close to extending their lead after the interval when Lewis Wright made a dash for the line and was held up despite appeals for a high tackle.

Both teams had a player sent to the sin bin after tempers boiled over which resulted in a scuffle on the try line.

However, this sparked Alcester into life as Biltcliffe scored the game’s decisive try in the closing stages before a Bromyard penalty reduced the lead to six points as the home side clinched a losing bonus point.

Alcester are next in action at home to Burbage on Saturday, October 1 on their Vice President’s day with kick-off at 3pm at Kings Coughton.
