RUGBY UNION - Alcester awarded walkover win

ALCESTER RFC were awarded a home walkover bonus point win after opponents Woodrush were unable to field a side.

The Kings Coughton club therefore remain second in the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table, three points behind leaders Manor Park.

That meant the club’s second XV took centre stage as they hosted a University of Birmingham Medical Students team.

And the Medics impressed to lead 15-5 at half time before Alcester called on four players that had originally been selected for the first team.

The introduction of these players turned the game in Alcester’s favour as the home side eventually ran out comfortable 29-15 winners.

Alcester’s try scorers were Kane O’Connor, Ieuan Hopkin, Elliot Evans, Jamie Clarke and Kyran Flynn whilst Sam Fell and Glyn Smith both added a conversion each.

Elsewhere, Alcester’s under-16 side were beaten 43-20 by Old Leamingtonians in a full-blooded encounter at Kings Coughton and Alcester Colts lost to league leaders Camp Hill despite a determined performance.

Alcester’s first team are next in action away at Pinley on Saturday, February 11 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Wyken Croft.
