Road runners rise to the challenge

Stratford Editorial 7th Jan, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

‘WORK hard, play hard’ seems to be the motto of Stratford Athletic Club’s road runners, of whom nearly 40 turned up on December 27 to join almost 40 others for the third round of the Tempo 10k Winter Series – a challenging route around and above Ilmington.

The weather was less than ideal as heavy rain before the start turned to drizzle throughout the morning and huge puddles on the course ensured everyone got wet feet.

Stratford runners continued to maintain their high profile in the series as Rich Shepherd (third) led the charge, followed by Oscar Barbour (sixth) and Neil Wicks (seventh) making it into the top ten.

Hannah Spriggs, (54th overall) was Stratford’s first lady home and third in her category, followed by Charlotte Ramsey (64th overall, second in the FV35 category).

Maureen Birch (157th, first in the FV65) continued to dominate her age group.

Congratulations to everyone who undertook the challenge, particularly those still in the hunt for the five-race series prizes.
