STRATFORD Athletic Club has enjoyed arguably its most successful season in the Warwickshire Road Race League.

In the 12 age categories available, SAC members won two of them, were placed second in two others and fourth in a further two.

The WRRL is an annual series of road races promoted by athletic clubs in Warwickshire and this year there were 11 races across varied distances, including a couple of 5km events, two five-milers, three at 10km, a six-mile, nine-mile, ten-mile and a half marathon.

Age categories included are U20, senior, 35, 45, 55 and 65, for both male and female. In the senior male category, the winner of a race is awarded 500 points and the next to finish 499 etc. In all of the other categories, the winner is awarded 200 points with the next to finish getting 199 points etc.

Stratford’s two age category winners were Ruth Calderbank in the F65 category and Tim Hutchinson in the M45. Both were comfortable victors in very competitive categories.

Ruth gained maximum points by coming first in her age category in every race she competed in, gaining a maximum 1,200 points, whilst Tim scored only two points less – 1,198 – to win by a comfortable 15-point margin, coming first out of 177 competitors.

The most unfortunate of the Stratford runners was Annie Cox – competing in this competition for the first time – in the FU20 category. She finished in second place, losing out by just one point.

David Jones was delighted to finish in second place in the M65 category – six points behind the winner.

Other notable performances came from Sam Weaving in the MU20 category in which he finished fourth and Lynne Hinson, who also finished fourth in the very competitive F45 category against 114 other competitors.
