STRATFORD Athletic Club star Georgie Campbell turned on the style to qualify for the West Midlands team which will compete at the London Mini Marathon.

Campbell finished second in the West Midlands trials which were held on the cycle track at Stourport Sports Club over an undulating three-mile course.

As she had a weekend off from cross country racing, Campbell decided to compete despite being in the middle of some heavy training.

At the start of the under 15 girls race Eden Schiller (Staffordshire Moorlands) and Megan Taylor (Coventry Godiva) set off at a ferocious pace, quickly opening up a large 30-second gap over Campbell, who was clear in third place.

However, Campbell was confident in her steady pace at just over six minutes a mile, which she maintained into the latter stages of the race when she started reeling in the other two girls.

First, she went past Taylor and was quickly catching Schiller but just ran out of time.

Campbell was rewarded with second place and a spot in the West Midlands team for the London race against the top young athletes in the country.

Her time for three miles of 18 minutes, 11 seconds was a club record, beating the previous record held by Zoe Chandler from 2009 by almost a minute.
