Podium joy for Stratford Tri Club juniors

Stratford Editorial 4th Aug, 2017

STRATFORD Tri Club junior athletes dominated the podium at the aquathlon hosted by Birmingham Running and Triathlon Club in Edgbaston on Sunday.

Stratford had an athlete on the podium in every age category for the first time this season, with the seven athletes producing some great performances in the event which comprised a pool-based swim followed by an off-road run.

Martha Bullock continued her fine debut season by winning the Tri Star Start category (50 metres swim/600 metres run).

Martha took the lead from the start and despite being chased down hard by the rest of the field she showed immense determination to finish in first place again in a time of four minutes 25 seconds.

In the Tri Star 1 category (150m swim/1,200m run), Kate Pridham also showed immense grit and determination with a blistering run to seal second place in 9mins 08secs.

Molly Bullock claimed the third trophy of the day for Stratford in the Tri Star 2 (200m swim/1,800m run).

Molly finished third in a time of 11mins 27secs and teammate Georgia Pridham was tenth in 13mins 42secs.

In the Tri Star 3 race (300m swim/2,400m run), Helena West put in one of her finest performances of the year, ending in a well-deserved third place in 15mins 30secs.

Helena came out of the swim in fifth place but made up two further places on the run after running side by side with another athlete for three laps of a four-lap run but then kicking hard on the last lap to take third place.

Stratford picked up two further trophies in the final youth event (400m swim/3,000m run) as Ben Jones was third in the boys’ race and Hope Lawton finishing first in the girls’ race.

Head coach Richard Cox said that he was delighted the club secured podium finishes in all age categories as this demonstrated the depth of talent within the club.

Two of the clubs Junior Triathletes were also in action on Saturday in the Blithfield Junior Aquathlon.

Theo Skirvin raced in the Tri Star 2 category (200m open water swim/1,500m run), finishing in fifth place, and Ben Jones was third in the youth category (400m open water swim/3,000m run).
