Midland duty for Masters pair

Liam Moakes 1st Mar, 2017

TWO weeks after being shortlisted in the annual District Sports Awards, Stratford Athletic Club’s Paula Williams and Phil Brennan were recognised again with places in a strong Midland team which competed against the country’s best at the England Masters Inter-Area match at Lee Valley Indoor Arena in London on Sunday.

With two of her children, in a talented family, competing at the English Age Group Championships in Sheffield, Paula had a busy day competing in five events.

Having spent the last few weeks focusing on her start under the guidance of her coach Tony Humphreys, she started well and shattered her personal best in the 60m hurdles.

This was followed by strong performances in the shot, long jump and triple jump before finishing off with a successful leg in the 4x200m relay.

Meanwhile, preparing for the British Indoor Championships in a couple of weeks, international veteran athlete Phil Brennan had a quiet day by his standards with a third placed finish in the 1,500m and fourth place in the 800m.
