Colts maintain winning run

Stratford Editorial 23rd Jan, 2019   0

STRATFORD Town Colts Under 14s moved into second place in Pool A of the Ambassador Evesham Football League with a 4-0 victory over bottom side Eckington at the Home Guard Club.

Saturday’s win extended Colts’ unbeaten run to six league games and leaves them in fine spirits heading into this weekend’s visit to Broadway. However, Stratford have played three more games than their closest rival, whilst leaders Welland are yet to drop a point.

Archie Jones on the right wing looked a threat and was full of running as he combined well with right-back Ruben Herdman and both took turns in making good runs and delivering quality crosses into the box.

On the left, Hunter Binks and Joe Lewis were doing the same, leaving centre-back Rory Hands and stand-in goalkeeper Archie Cullen as spectators.

Alfie Organ scored after ten minutes with a clever chip over the keeper before Lewis doubled his team’s advantage by side-footing home from the edge of the box.

Stratford were in complete control and their third goal came from yet another cross by Jones which found Jack Vernon whose spectacular overhead kick was only parried by the Eckington keeper straight to the feet of Herdman who fired home from close range.

Stratford eventually scored their fourth and final goal late on as Callum Harrison, who had an excellent game as a defensive holding midfielder, pounced on a poor clearance from a corner and netted his fourth of the season and along with it the man of the match award.
