STRATFORD Town Colts U13s held their nerve to secure a 1-0 victory at Droitwich Lions on Saturday and clinch the Ambassador Evesham Football League Pool B title.
It was an ill-tempered affair on a hard pitch but the visitors made sure of the point they needed to seal top spot when Daniel Larkin popped up to convert from close range with ten minutes remaining following a goalmouth scramble.
Ten minutes before half-time, Callum Harrison had made a surging run into the Droitwich box and was upended, resulting in a penalty to Stratford, but leading scorer Sam Shuttleworth – who has found the net 30 times this season in 18 games – saw the keeper make a fine save to his left.
However, the miss did not matter as, soon after full-time, Colts captain Rory Hands collected the league trophy on his 13th birthday.
Stratford finished on 35 points – two clear of runners-up Stourport Swifts and eight above third-placed Droitwich Lions.
