Chance to shine at multi-sports festival

Stratford Editorial 13th Jan, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

STRATFORD schoolchildren are being invited to show off their talents and audition for the chance to perform at a major multi-sports festival.

Auditions will be held at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington on Thursday, March 5 when primary and secondary school performers will be able to compete for the chance to perform at the Sainsbury’s School Games festivals in 2015.

The Sainsbury’s School Games are major countywide sporting competitions that aim to promote the ‘Spirit of the Olympic Games’ by giving every school and child the chance to participate in competitive sport.

The level three county festivals are organised by the PE and School Sport Steering Group for Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire, which is made up of representatives from school and community sport, national governing bodies of sport and local authorities and supported by Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire Sport (CSW Sport).

Audrajean Elliott-Davies, of CSW Sport, said: “The Sainsbury’s School Games festivals not only encourage children to get active by participating in fun sporting activities but they also allow youngsters to show off their creative talent.

“It is the second year we have held talent auditions and last year’s event was a great success with one of the winning acts going on to perform at the level 4 Sainsbury’s School Games in Manchester in September.

“This year, we really want to see a broad range of talents showcased with performances such as dance, music, cheerleading, choirs, circus skills and alternative acts.

“We would also encourage schools and performers to help us promote the key values of the School Games including determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief and teamwork.

“Auditions will be open to pupils in year groups two to 13 and acts may be individual, small or large groups.

“The top three primary and secondary school performances will be given the chance to perform at one of the opening ceremonies of either the winter or summer county festivals.

“The winning primary and secondary school performances will also receive a £100 Decathlon voucher while those placing in second and third will receive a £50 Decathlon voucher.”

Primary school auditions will be held in the morning and secondary school auditions will take place in the afternoon. All schools will be expected to stay for half a day.
