STRATFORD Badminton Club’s championship-winning men’s first team started the season with a big 8-0 win at Central Sports in the top tier of the South Warwickshire Badminton League.

Central Sports were crowned Division Two champions last season as they completed the campaign without a dropping a single set, but they proved no match for the Stratford team of Gerrard Thompson, Chris Rees, Tom Burdett and newcomer Simon Keyte.

The men’s second team lost their first match to Leamington Badminton Club but have since turned things around and recorded wins against Bowling Green and Warwick Bears 2.

SBC’s championship-winning ladies’ team matched their male counterparts as they too enjoyed an 8-0 victory in defeating hosts Warwick Bears Ladies 8-0 and are already on course to bring home the ladies’ title for a record sixth time in a row.

The team of Fliss Drinkwater, Gemma Johnson, Debbie Johnson and Rebecca Fall showed no mercy in beating their potential title rivals.

The mixed first team are yet to play but the mixed second team, ably captained by Taffy Thompson, have won both of their matches 6-3 against Balsall Common and Warwick Bears 1.

SBC is open to new members so, if you are interested, then get in touch by e-mailing [email protected] or visit www.stratfordbadminton.org.uk.
