THE 13TH annual Stratford-on-Avon District Celebration of Sport awards evening organised by the district council takes place on Friday, January 23.
The 2015 event will be hosted by Stratford Manor Q Hotel in partnership with headline sponsors NFU Mutual, Rybrook Stratford and Everyone Active.
The judges have met and a shortlist of finalists has been chosen, featuring the following finalists for the eight awards as follows:
Junior Sports Person: Edward Higson – sailing; Freya Eaton – alpine skiing; Madeleine Hoare – swimming; Niall Treacy – speed skating; Rory Dwyer – athletics; Sophia Potter – fencing; Zoe Perkin – rifle shooting.
Senior Sports Person: Megan Giglia – para-cycling; Ben Haigh – wheelchair basketball; Caitlin McCarthy – archery.
Everyone Active Junior Team: King Edward VI School boys’ fencing team; Stratford Sharks Nuneaton Junior League swimming team; Stratford Athletic Club junior team.
Senior Team: Stratford Cricket Club 2nd XI; Stratford Tennis Club team; Stratford Athletic Club women’s cross-country team.
Alternative Sport (Individual or Team) Award: Callum McGready – ultimate frisbee; Erin McGready – ultimate frisbee; Nicole and Danielle Brain – canoe polo; Studley Skippers girls’ team; Taz Chape – freestyle disco dancer.
Rybrook Stratford Coach of the Year: Paul Bearman – athletics; Andy Lovell – football; Mathew Pickering – boxing; Peter Richards – cricket.
Volunteer of the Year: Kelly McCormack – netball; Megan Watkins – hockey, gymnastics and dance; Chris and Sue Dale – skipping.
Stratford Manor Q Hotel Service to Sport Award: Jerry Birkbeck – rugby; Tony Butler – cycling; Godfrey Witts – cricket; Richard Hughes – multi-sports; David Kirby – fencing.
