Ahenkorah impressing for Town

Stratford Editorial 20th Jul, 2017   0

STRATFORD Town will look to Edwin Ahenkorah to continue his red-hot pre-season form as they step up their preparations for the new campaign.

The striker has bagged four goals in two matches as he proved his fitness following a knee injury which wrecked the second part of last season.

Ahenkorah netted twice in Saturday’s 4-3 defeat to Rushall Olympic and again hit a double in Tuesday night’s 3-2 win at Boldmere St Michaels.

Carl Adams’ men will aim to follow up with further positive displays when they head to Bedworth United on Saturday before travelling to Alvechurch on Tuesday.

Town had begun their friendly programme with a 1-0 defeat to visitors Stafford Rangers last Thursday, with former favourite Richard Gregory hitting the only goal at the MoodChimp Stadium.

Stratford then raced into a 3-0 interval lead on Saturday against another Northern Premier side Rushall, with Ben Stephens slotting home the first and then Aheknorah tapping home a Stephens cross and then smashing home his second from a James Hancocks pass.

However, after Town had Warren Brookes sent off early in the second period, the Pics hit back to net four goals.

On Tuesday, Stratford recorded their first friendly victory, despite falling behind on Boldmere’s new artificial pitch.

Stuart Capaldi gave the Mikes the opener but Ahenkorah and Liam Francis put Adams’ side 2-1 up at half time.

A penalty from Ahenkorah after Stephens’ shot was handled provided Town with a third before former Town full back Kieren Westwood, who is heading to the US to study in St Louis, netted with a stunning overhead strike.
