Village landmark to be restored to former glory

A MUCH-loved village landmark is set to be restored to its former glory.

The village pond in Long Itchington is home to plenty of ducks but over the years other wildlife has disappeared as the water quality has declined.

But it is set to get a new lease of life after Bloor Homes – which is working on a nearby development – donated £5,000 to improve the water supply to the pond, which is located on the junction of Southam Road and The Green.

There will also be work done to the surrounding fencing and more planting done around the pond.

Coun Barbara Atkins, chair of Long Itchington Parish Council welcomed the news.

She said: “The pond is one of the main features in the village and means a great deal to the residents who live here.

“About 20 years ago the pond was cleaned out because it was leaking but since then the water supply has started to decline and this summer the water level was very low. The water supply requires some serious investigation.”

The parish council hopes work will be completed by next summer.
