'Unsung heroes' presented Queen's award

‘UNSUNG heroes’ in Stratford have been recognised after receiving a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Volunteers from wellbeing charity Escape Arts were honoured with the award – the highest given to volunteers – by Warwickshire Lord Lieutenant Tim Cox.

Stratford mayor John Bicknell and Stratford District Council vice chairman Penny-Anne O’Donnell were also there to congratulate the group.

The charity – based at the Old Slaughterhouse heritage centre off Sheep Street – uses arts and creativity to unite and support vulnerable and isolated members of the community.

Artistic director Karen Williams said: “It was a wonderful evening involving volunteers who have supported the charity over the past 20 years, it was wonderful to finally have our unsung heroes fully recognised.”
