COUNCIL chiefs are continuing the fight to evict travellers from Stratford’s recreation ground.

Stratford District Council has secured a second court order to evict the unauthorised encampment which failed to leave by the 12.30pm deadline set by the council for Thursday (January 10).

Once served, the new deadline is expected to be set early this week.

The camp was evicted from Stratford Leisure Centre car park on Tuesday (January 8)and made the short hop to the recreation ground, leaving waste – understood to include human excrement – in its wake.

The some 50 caravans had been at the leisure centre on and off throughout December.

A spokeswoman said: “The district council would like to reassure locals that it is working as fast as the existing laws allows, to bring this situation to a conclusion.”
