A TEENAGE driver has appeared in court following a fatal car crash near Shipston.

Edward Alwyn Spencer, of Armscote Road, Newbold on Stour, is charged with three counts of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving and three counts of causing serious injury by careless inconsiderate driving.

The 18 year-old was the driver of a Ford Fiesta containing three other teenagers travelling home from school together when they were involved in a collision with a Fiat 500 on the B4035 Campden Road shortly after 4pm on Friday April 21 last year.

Following the collision, 17 year-old Harry Purcell and 16 year-old Matilda Seccombe died in hospital later the same day and 16 year-old Frank Wormald died two days later. All three were pupils at Chipping Campden School.

The occupants of the Fiat 500 – a woman and two children – were taken to hospital with serious injuries and continue to receive ongoing treatment for their injuries.

At Coventry Magistrates Court, Mr Spencer confirmed his name, address and date of birth. There was no indication of plea.

The case was adjourned to June 5 at Warwick Crown Court.
