Stratford's own Wombles have double reason to celebrate

Stratford Editorial 23rd Apr, 2018 Updated: 23rd Apr, 2018   0

STRATFORD’S very own Wombles cleaned-up over the weekend.

Rubbish Friends joined others in Shakespeare’s home town to mark the Bard’s birthday, and the community tidy-up campaign group had two reasons of their own to celebrate.

Members entered the first ever Community Literary Pageant – which formed part of the Shakespeare Birthday Parade – dressed naturally enough as Wombles, from the book by Elisabeth Beresford, and they won, picking up a £500 prize which they will be recycling to help with their work tidying up the district.

And the double celebration was complete when founder Becky Reynolds received the Mayoral Award for her work with Rubbish Friends.

Becky told The Observer she was shocked but honoured to receive the award.

Rubbish Friend are always keen to welcome new members. Visit their Facebook group Rubbish Friends (Stratford Upon Avon) or call Becky on 07853 995580 for further details.

The next litter pick is on Saturday (April 28).
