Stratford's Guild Chapel wins another award

Stratford Editorial 2nd Apr, 2019   0

STRATFORD’S Guild Chapel is celebrating success at the 2019 UK Heritage Awards.

The historic chapel won the Judges Discretionary award – one of 12 annual awards handed out in celebration of the country’s best heritage experiences and places to stay.

The judges praised the ongoing conservation and education work surrounding the medieval wall paintings – some of the finest surviving in Europe – at the chapel on the corner of Church Street and Chapel Lane.

Chapel volunteer coordinator Pippa Brook said: “Our success has been thanks to a huge team effort and special recognition goes to our conservation team and to our wonderful volunteers, who are so invaluable to what we are trying to achieve.”

In 2018, the Guild Chapel won the prestigious annual prize awarded by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings – the Sir John Betjeman Award.

And earlier this year, the chapel was commended in the Historic England Angel Awards.

The chapel is open daily, free of charge with donations welcomed. Visit www.guildchapel.org.uk for further details.
