LITTER is on this month’s agenda as Stratford District councillors took to the streets for the Great British September Clean.
The nationwide clean, sparked by Warwick-based campaign Keep Britain Tidy, started last week and runs until September 27. The event supports groups across the UK to organise litter picks, and encourages individuals to pledge to pick for at least 15 minutes.
Councillors Peter Richards, Chris Mills, Tony Jefferson and Edward Fitter were joined by MP Nadhim Zahawi as they cleaned up litter in the town centre, Bancroft and the recreation ground.
Coun Richards said: “I fully support the Great British September Clean which is promoted by Keep Britain Tidy. It was great to make a visible difference in Stratford by litter picking.”
Mr Zahawi added: “Litter is a blight on our towns and spoils our enjoyment of them, costing councils like Stratford District Council hundreds of thousands of pounds each year to clear. Schemes like the Great British September Clean are a great way to draw attention to the issue and ultimately keep towns like Stratford clean.”
