Stratford awards calls for unsung heroes

Stratford Editorial 16th May, 2021   0

UNSUNG heroes from Stratford are being celebrated as housing association Orbit launches its annual community award programme.

The Thriving Communities Awards celebrate Orbit customers, partners and employees who go the extra mile to make a positive contribution to their area or who have turned their lives around.

The public is being asked to nominate a community champion or group, to ensure they get the recognition they deserve.

Among the awards is the Brian Griffiths’ Award dedicated to Orbit customers who have overcome significant social barriers and have transformed their lives. The award is named in memory of the late Brian Griffiths, a former Orbit Board member and Chartered Institute of Housing President, who dedicated his life to helping others.

Others include the Better Days Award and the Stronger Together Award – for customers and Orbit supply chain partners respectively, who have made a positive contribution to their community, the Your Voice Award for those who have engaged positively through activities, and the new Orbit Earth Award for those who have developed a project to make a positive impact on the environment.

Group chief executive Mark Hoyland said: “Our Thriving Communities Awards shine the spotlight on the amazing people, charities, social enterprises, and businesses that share our values and make the world a better place. We believe that, in light of the ongoing pandemic, it is more important than ever to put our customers first and to recognise our community heroes. We are always looking for ways to showcase the inspirational stories from our communities, which is why we are introducing two new categories for 2021.

“The introduction of these extra categories demonstrates the success of our awards and how they have grown and adapted over the years, especially the introduction of the Orbit Earth category, which highlights our ongoing environmental commitment. Orbit leads in building thriving communities and we are delighted to be able to share these inspirational stories and to ask the public to vote for their local heroes.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday May 28.
