STRATFORD is on course to be the first to pass go and win the town it’s very own version of Monopoly.
But residents are being urged to ensure the likes of Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the RST and the Bancroft Gardens get a square get on the iconic board game by casting a vote for Stratford before the end of the month.
Stratford is currently out in front of those shortlisted with 31.4 per cent of the current vote – ahead of Shrewsbury with 25.3, Warwick with 19.8, Gloucester with 16, and Leamington with 7.5.
“Each are proving extremely strong contenders,” said Natasha Rebuck, Custom Games Development Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making this official version of Monopoly under license from game owners Hasbro.
“We originally began with a list of 12, but have shortlisted these down to five. At the moment with polls closing pretty soon Stratford-upon-Avon is winning.”
“If Stratford on Avon does go on to emerge triumphant then it will not just be a Monopoly board but a Monopoly bard – and we are sure a world famous one too in this milestone year.”
Customised features will see the four train stations from the London original being handed over to a ‘travel’ theme.
And many of the Chance and Community Chest playing cards will also be heavily customised too. Players could even find themselves collecting £10 from each player by winning a competition in The Observer.
The game featuring the winning town or city will go into production to be ready in time for Christmas and will hit shop shelves this October, with the board showcasing property landmarks from the winning location.
