SHORT films aim to take would-be Compton Verney visitors behind the scenes of the historic art gallery and its grounds.

Love Compton Verney is a series of short films about the artifacts, landscape and wildlife to be discovered at the Grade I Georgian mansion near Kineton.

Each one offers a chance to take a peek at some of the collections and artworks that are rarely opened, and hear about the gallery’s future projects.

Every week a new film will reveal something different about its famous collection and 120-acre surroundings.

Keen birders can enjoy volunteer wildlife officer, Alwyn Knapton sharing his favourite spot in Compton Verney’s landscape, along with his ingenious deterrent to prevent sneaky squirrels stealing from the bird feeders.

Viewers can also discover the Palladian chapel, a 3,000-year-old ritual wine vessel and Samuel Cooper’s portrait miniature of Oliver Cromwell – believed to be the result of his famous request to be depicted ‘pimples, warts and everything as you see me’.

Five films are scheduled for March, with a focus on Compton Verney’s forest school, planting a new hedge with gardeners Adam and Chris, a behind-the-scenes look at the Mary Newcomb exhibition and a featurette about willow tunnels.

Director Julie Finch said: “Much as it’s now Half Term, the ongoing lockdown restrictions mean that visiting many places is very difficult, at best. So, for those people who aren’t able to visit our grounds, which are currently open, we’re bringing some of the highlights and wonders of the gallery and park direct to their homes via our website. Each film lasts less than two minutes but shares what our experts, volunteers and visitors love most about this unique place.

“We hope you feel inspired and please do join the conversation by sharing what you love about Compton Verney with the hashtag #LoveComptonVerney. Your recommendation could even be made into one of our next films.”
