STRAPPED for cash schools are seeking support from parents in the fight against cuts.
More than £5million is set to be slashed from school budgets in the Stratford district, which has raised fears the severe Government cost-cutting – part of a new national schools funding formula – will stretch educational resources to the limit.
Peter Wyllie, Warwickshire rep for the National Association of Head Teachers, has circulated a letter to other school heads in the hope to galvanise parents into action.
The letter explains how funding issues will directly affect classrooms, and outlines some of the changes schools might be forced to make.
Larger classrooms, fewer GCSE and A-Level options, outdated equipment, poor building maintenance, and less pastoral and mental health support, are just some of the issues addressed.
Mr Wylie, who is also headteacher of Kingsway Primary in Leamington, said: “There have been many campaigns across across the country from teacher and headteacher unions, but what can make a real difference is parents and the general public putting pressure on MPs.
“The government are saying that they are spending more on education than ever before, which is true but the reason is that there are approximately 500,000 additional children in our schools. This claim by the Government’s masks the reality of the situation which is school budgets are being cut.
