SHAKESPEARE shone brighter than ever in his home town as the RSC staged a firework display to mark his 450th birthday.
Over 1,000 gathered in the Bancroft Gardens on Wednesday night (April 23) to watch the display – with the RST as a backdrop – which included an eight metre high depiction of Shakespeare’s face – based on the famous Droeshout engraving – lit up in fire.
The display took its inspiration from fellow dramatist Ben Jonson’s description of Shakespeare as our ‘Star of Poets’ in the First Folio.
