RSC midsummer celebration to focus on star-crossed lovers

Stratford Editorial 21st May, 2018   0

THE RSC is inviting people to come together in Stratford to change history for one of Shakespeare’s most famous couples.

In previous year’s the company has marked midsummer with a Fairy Portal Camp and Roman Midsummer Feast, but this year the focus will be on star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.

Artists from Kinetika will create a free to attend Midsummer Dance Party on the weekend of June 23 and 24 with opportunities to make costumes and decorations and learn dances. The choreography will be available in advance of the event as a special tutorial video, which will be launched on the RSC’s social media channels on June 11.

There will be an all-day drop in craft and making workshop on June 23 to make things to wear and decorations for the party, with dance workshops across the Swan gardens, a procession, and mass dance finale the following day.

Kinetika and the RSC are also holding free drop-in dance workshops on May 29 and 3 to develop a mass dance for the Midsummer Dance Party. These fun and energetic hour-long workshops are for all ages, with a family session at each. They will be held at Warwickspace and Stratford High School on May 29, and at the Clore Learning Centre on May 30.

The RSC will be recruiting a core group of dancers, aged 13 to 17, from the May half-term workshops, to help lead the dancing. No experience is necessary but group dancers will need to be available for rehearsals on the evenings June 11 annd 12.
