Rise in antisemitism prompts council to make a stand

CONCERN over the rise of antisemitism in the UK has prompted council chiefs in the district to make a stand.

Following a motion proposed by Labour councillor Jason Fotjik, Stratford District Council has pledged to combat the form of racism as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

The alliance defines antisemitism in a number of ways including stereotypical allegations about Jews, myths of Jewish conspiracy, accusing Jews of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust and using symbols and images associated with antisemitism, among others.

The council has adopted the definition and has welcomed cross-party support to combat the racism in any of its forms.
