PUPILS are preparing to break a wheely big record – having narrowly failed first time.

Schoolchildren from across Warwickshire will have a Guinness World Records title in sight when they attempt to form the ‘Largest Human Image of a Bicycle.’

The attempt, at Kenilworth High School on Friday May 26, has been organised by Warwickshire County Council to celebrate the return of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour to the county.

Around 1,300 youngsters will take part in a bid to break the record set by the community of Silloth-on-Solway in Cumbria in 2015, whose bicycle included around 800 people.

A previous attempt was made at Warwick Castle last year, but Guinness decided there were too many patches of green in the wheels of the bike.

But this has not deterred an even bigger attempt to break the record at this year’s event, which aims to inspire and excite the next generation of cyclists in the run up to the Women’s Tour on Friday June 9.

Project manager Chris Egan said: “This will be a fun event but with a serious side as it will hopefully enthuse children about the joys and benefits of cycling.”It will also have a wonderful legacy if the attempt is successful, ensuring Warwickshire another place in Guinness World Records history.

“Strict guidelines apply to successfully achieve a Guinness World Records title, we narrowly missed out on the title on last year’s attempt despite having more than enough people.”
