PEOPLE over 40 are being urged to have a free NHS health check.

The check-up is designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes and dementia and hopes to reduce the risk, or manage conditions before they get severe.

Since the start of the NHS Health Checks campaign in Warwickshire over 2,300 people aged 40 to 74 have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and some 750 with diabetes.

But just 30 per cent of people in the county have taken have taken up the offer of a free health check.
