Nursery nurse completes marathon for cause close to her heart

A NURSERY nurse from Leamington received a hero’s welcome home after a marathon effort to help sick children.

Milly Smith, who works at Emscote House Day Nursery, completed the London Marathon to raise money for Birmingham’s Children Hospital following the leukaemia diagnosis of one of their own children at the day nursery.

And after a gruelling 26.2 mile course through the capital she raised £2,666.

Milly Smith said: “Running the London Marathon was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done – my furthest distance to date, and although it took me a while, I made it to the end without stopping once. It was one of the most amazing days, with the most incredible atmosphere, crowds and the wonderful support of my family who cheered me on the whole way.”

And when she returned to the classroom she was greeted by the children’s homemade congratulations banners.

Milly spoke to the captivated youngsters about the special event and gave them the opportunity to try on her medal.
