A NEW multi-storey car park and operating theatre look set to be built at Warwick Hospital.
Bosses at the Lakin Road hospital are looking to improve parking facilities and create a sixth operating theatre.
South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT) – which runs Warwick, Stratford, Leamington and Ellen Badger hospitals – say both developments are much-needed to cope with demand but is yet to reveal costs and full details of the plans.
At a recent meeting financial trust bosses revealed they will put some £2.5million aside to cover the costs of the car park over the next two years.
Currently the site has nearly 400 spaces available and says it would look at how many it would increase this to if plans were given the go-ahead.
SWFT recently bucked the trend for failing NHS services by building a new state-of-the-art hospital in Stratford.
The £22million building, on the site of the old Arden Street hospital, offers a cancer unit, ophthalmology unit and community wellbeing hub across three floors.
And Warwick Hospital is currently undergoing improvements with a new £1.5million Midwife Led Unit being built on site. It is set to open this summer.
The new car park is expected to cover the increase in patients from the unit along with those who already use the hospital site.
A hospital spokeswoman said: “The trust recognises there is a need for additional theatre capacity and car parking at Warwick Hospital.
“We are currently exploring options to develop both of these within the space available.”
