MP backs plastic pollution action plan

STRATFORD MP Nadhim Zahawi has pledged to support a plan to introduce laws to tackle the devastating effects of plastic on the planet.

Friends of the Earth (FoE) in Stratford called on the MP to back its ‘plastic pollution action plan’ to stop companies using non-essential plastic.

The plan focuses on immediate action to phase out plastic and to reduce pollution from hard-to-replace plastics tyres, clothing and paint.

Member Bob Bearman said Mr Zahawi ‘clearly showed concern about plastic pollution’ and the crisis would only be solved by government action.

Mr Zahawi said: “Everyone is aware of the need to tackle the growing plastics crisis and making changes in our own lives has a part to play. But I accept that to make a real difference some government action may be required. So I am keen to make sure that FoE’s ‘plastic pollution action plan’ is taken into account in any future environmental legislation.”
