Mencap urges carers to pop in for a chat

Ian Hughes 2nd Nov, 2016

ANYONE looking after a loved one or working as a carer is invited to a free forum in Stratford set up to share advice, experience and support.

The second Care & Share forum, run by local charity Heart of England Mencap, takes place at Stratford School next Friday (November 11).

Carers – paid and unpaid – are welcome to drop in between 5pm and 7pm for a cup of tea and a chat. The forum is open to all, not just those working for or with loved ones supported by Heart of England Mencap.

It follows the success of the first forum – held at Tyler House in June – when Care & Share was set up and organised by support worker Rebecca Newbury.

She said: “Whether you care for someone at home, on a full or part-time basis, or whether you work in the care sector, this is a great opportunity for you to share advice, experience and stories with other carers.

“It’s a relaxed, informal and non-judgemental forum, giving you the chance to talk frankly with other local people who are experiencing the same challenges, hopes and fears.”

Across the UK there are 6.5million carers, supporting loved ones with disabilities, through illness or in old age.
