A CHARITY supporting people with learning difficulties is celebrating success following the launch of a new book club.
The first Accessible Book Club, which took place at the Stratford Literary Festival, allowed Mencap customers to share their experiences with others, with specially made books illustrating their life stories.
The ‘Books Beyond Words’ were developed following a campaign, to help those with learning disabilities who prefer to read using pictures rather than words, to communicate.
The picture books have been opened up to the wider community to encourage discussion and friendships.
Fundraising manager Cath Errington said: “The idea is to bring people together – whether they are Heart of England Mencap customers or not, to share stories together and chat about any of the topics they raise.
The new club will meet Fridays afternoons at Tyler House in Stratford.
