Little 'caterpillars' enjoy first community funded birthday bash

GOOD old-fashioned community spirit has left a birthday-girl feeling happy and full of cake.

The Caterpillar Cafe is a weekly-run event at Tyler House Hub which welcomes families with youngsters to come and play.

The event organised by mums Emma Gurdag and Karen MacNamara recently introduced a ‘pay what you like’ stall including food, secondhand clothes and toys, and money raised is being used to hold free birthday parties for struggling parents.

Karen said: “We are happy to say that the family involved had a lovely time and the birthday girl in question felt like she had such a special birthday.

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved, from those donating to those who bought items off the table. Emma and myself are overwhelmed by the support that the table has received so far and really feel a sense of community spirit with everyone banding together to create a magical day for one of our ‘little caterpillars’.”

The cafe runs every Friday between 10am and 2pm at Tyler House on Tyler Street.

Entry is £2.50.
