Leamington's lady golfers get into the swing of fundraising

Stratford Editorial 1st Apr, 2024   0

GOLFING ladies from Leamington have really got into the swing of fundraising.

The ladies section of Leamington and County Golf Club raised a grand total of £6,000 over the last year through a host of different fundraisers, with all the cash going to the Emergency Volunteers for the Red Cross Warwickshire branch.

Ladies’ captain Carolyn Talbot chose the charity as she is an emergency volunteer herself.

The golfers held a Ladies Day at Ascot at Carolyn’s home where they dressed up in their finery and hats, ate afternoon tea and bet on the actual races at a nominal fee.

They held a number of raffles at their various Open competitions, held a charity fun day at the club for residents, held a ladies Christmas shopping evening with various stalls, with some of the members of the men’s golf club acting as waiters serving canapes and prosecco.

And they also had a ‘green windowsill’ in the ladies locker room selling plants and excess fruit and vegetables.

Emergency response volunteers are trained to help people in crisis and have a vehicle stocked with supplies of essential items including clothing, hygiene packs and basic food and drinks.

They respond to house fires, flooding incidents, anti-trafficking/modern slavery, utility disruptions and more.
