Keep off our land! - Wellesbourne allotment holders fight housing plans

Stratford Editorial 29th Jun, 2017 Updated: 29th Jun, 2017   0

GREEN-FINGERED villagers are ready to fight back after it was revealed homes could be built on Wellesbourne Allotments.

Coventry Diocese is set to submit plans to Stratford District Council to build up to 50 homes on the 175 year-old Kineton Road site, which is one of the oldest in the country.

But angry plot holders at the Wellesbourne Allotment Association say they will oppose the proposals and create a ‘plan of action’ to ensure houses are not built on their beloved land.

Some of the allotment’s 96 users have held plots there for nearly 80 years where they have tended to their vegetables.

Last year plans to build some 80 homes on land neighbouring the plots were rejected as the site was not within the council’s allocated core strategy and was close to Grade II listed buildings.
