International friendship garden celebrating world Stratfords taking shape

A MAGICAL garden in Stratford has started to take shape.

The RSC commissioned a Midsummer Nights Dream inspired-garden to mark the international friendship between Shakespeare’s home town and five other Stratfords around the world.

The garden was designed by the RSC’s events manager Andy Horn and is being planted in Bancroft Gardens in front of the RST.

Sculptor Emma Stothard – who created and presented a sculpture to Prince Charles of his dog Tigga – will be creating two six-foot willow sculptures of Bottom and Titania to feature among fox-gloves and willow trees in the ethereal forest scene.

Stratford of the World UK chairman, Tim Raistrick said: “We are delighted to have worked in partnership with the RSC and with the support of a number of private donors in the creation of this very special garden.

“I know that our friends from all the other Stratfords will enjoy the opening ceremony as part of the packed programme of events during their visit.”

The Friendship Garden will be officially opened on April 21 to coincide with the arrival of 150 delegates from the Stratfords of the world.
