Illegal tobacco sniffer dogs showcase skills in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 25th Sep, 2017   0

ILLEGAL tobacco sniffer dogs have been showcasing their skills.

In recent months the talented pups have helped Trading Standards to find and seize thousands of illegal cigarettes.

Officers use local intelligence to identify where tobacco is being sold illegally and then use the dogs to find any hidden on the premises.

And the dogs recently took to the streets in Leamington to showcase the work they do.

Warwickshire County Council spokesman for community safety Coun Howard Roberts said: “All smoking kills, but illegal tobacco is often sold at pocket money prices, making it easier for children to buy and become hooked.

“Illegal tobacco both threatens the livelihoods of legitimate traders and the health of young people.”
