A RIVERSIDE park with cycle paths to Warwick and Rugby looks set to be created in Leamington.
Warwick District Council’s executive agreed in principle to make a park beside the rivers Leam and Avon at the current site of the Edmondscote Athletics Track and land currently owned by Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
It is proposed to relocate the track to land close to Gallows Hill, opposite the community football stadium in a bid to enhance and promote sport and wellbeing on offer in the district.
Councillors say the country park would provide a safe, off-road connection for cyclists and pedestrians between Warwick and Leamington. It could extend to Draycote Water via a bridge over the Fosse Way.
Spokesman for cultural services, Coun Michael Coker said: “I am very pleased to see the whole of the district will benefit from not only a modern athletics track in good surroundings, but also that a significant new green space in Leamington is being created with a cycle route that enhances the district’s green travel options.”
