First payments being made for Council Tax energy rebate

Stratford Editorial 5th May, 2022   0

PAYMENTS have started to be made to residents eligible for the £150 energy rebate.

Stratford District Council (SDC) has paid out £4.06million so far to 27,083 households.

The government announced in March that most households in England in Council Tax Bands A to D would be eligible for a £150 rebate to help with the soaring costs of fuel bills, to be administered via the Council Tax system.

Payments have started to be made based on the date on which residents pay their Council Tax, with those who pay by direct debit at the start of the month receiving the rebate first. The payments will appear on bank statements as ‘SDC Energy Rebate’.

For those residents that do not pay by direct debit, they will soon receive a letter confirming what they need to do to claim the payment.

Under the scheme, where no direct debit payment has been made or no council tax is due, SDC will be making bank verification checks and will be writing directly to those customers but will not be telephoning customers asking for their bank details.

A discretionary scheme for those households not eligible for this payment is currently being worked up, and details of this will be available on the council’s website.
