First gaming graduates collect degrees

COMPUTER games are now big business and Warwickshire College has just awarded their first foundation degrees in Games Art.

The newly-qualified graduates will now be looking to enter the gaming industry, possibly in the hotbed of Leamington which has become known as Silicon Spa owing to the number of game developers based in and around the town.

But before then they were able to celebrate at the college’s graduation ceremony in Warwick, where they were joined by students from equine, horticulture, animal and veterinary nursing, computing, business, management and electrical engineering courses.

Graduates from Leamington college, Warwick Trident, Rugby, Pershore and Moreton Morrell donned their gowns, hoods and mortar boards at Old Shire Hall before before attending the graduation ceremonies at St Mary’s Church.




Guests of honour and speakers included founders of Blitz Games and Radiant Worlds Philip and Andrew Oliver, together with .

chief executive of Emerald Communications Sarah Windrum, and chief executive of the National Land Based College Leigh Morris.


Warwickshire College principal Angela Joyce said: “We were absolutely delighted to be holding graduation ceremonies in our county town of Warwick for the first time, with St Mary’s Church and Old Shire Hall providing a perfect setting for such an important occasion.

“This year was also a landmark for higher education at the group as we awarded our first foundation degrees in Games Art and it was wonderful to see the graduates in their red and gold hoods.

“This is just the start, as we will see many more foundation degrees awarded next year in a variety of subjects.

“For myself and all of our staff, the celebration is what everyone works towards – the success of our students and helping each one reach their potential. We are extremely proud of all of our graduates and wish them the very best for the future.”
